The planned strike at Caesars Windsor Casino in Ontario was narrowly averted on Tuesday night when casino management reached a last-minute agreement with the Unifor Local 444 bargaining team. On Thursday, some 2,300 workers will vote on the new treaty and ratify it after two months of negotiations. The new agreement prevented a last-minute strike. If the two parties had not reached an agreement, the workers would continue their plans and close the entire casino station. This has already been the case – in the spring of 2004, the hotel and casino floors were closed for 41 days due to a strike. Apparently, Caesars Windsor management was ready to respond to employee requests this time, and the most pessimistic scenario was narrowly avoided. The workers were prepared to strike and close the entire casino station unless their demands were met and a satisfactory agreement was signed. In a press release minutes after midnight, Caesars Windsor announced the signing of the agreement and expressed appreciation for the efforts of Unifor Local 444 during the negotiations.
